Deep Roots Farm is a diversified vegetable operation – currently transitioning to certified organic. We are in Upper Marlboro Maryland, 35 minutes outside of DC. We are seeking individuals interested in becoming an equity partner/owner in the business.  Key expectations to be a part of our community: punctuality, attention to details, responsible, consistency and a willingness to provide guidance to other. Must be willing to take ownership of all tasks assigned and be supportive of all fellow team member. 


Assistant Farm Manager:

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Execution of Crop Plan with guidance from Farm Owner

Following organic practices, oversees all day-to-day operations of farm production including cultivation, transplant production, soil/pest/disease management, harvest and post-harvest handling, cover cropping, and composting.
 

Maintains farm’s physical appearance so that it is presentable to the public at all times.
Farm equipment and facilities upkeep, maintenance, management, and procurement including tractors, grounds, and other tillage equipment, greenhouses, tunnel, and irrigation systems in order to ensure continuity of farm operations.
Conducts research and explores new production methods and crops.

Physically capable of working long days and lifting up to 50 pounds
Excellent communication with owner, administrator, and fellow farmer
Computer savvy and able to maintain records of seed starts, planting, production, and yields
Manage weekly and daily harvest and processing schedules
Manage and monitor soil health and pest management
Manage tasks for other staff members and interns
Manage and mentor less-experienced farm helpers

Livestock Experience is a plus

Chicken Flock

daily (may include weekends), manage purchasing of feed and necessary supplies 

Ensure proper maintenance of chicken coops, including cleaning

Purchase and raise new chickens to manage size of flock

Qualification:

3 to 6 years of proven farm experience on a production farm.

Ability to work under stress, interruptions, deadlines, and the ambiguity associated with farming.

Independent judgement to identify necessary action and initiative to undertake it.

Ability to prioritize work, problem solve, and communicate proficiently in verbal and written forms.

Compensation: 

This position pays $3,120 per month for 12 months of full-time work (W2)

Weekly vegetable share 

Paid time off (40 hours 1st year) and holidays

Yearend bonus based on production goals

Production Manager: 


The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Experience with no-till organic practices.
Exceptional communication with Owner, Assistant Farm Manager, and fellow farmer
Ability to maintain records of seed starts, planting, production, and yields.
Past performance in soil and field management, planting, cultivation, irrigation, greenhouse work, pest and climate control, and disease management.
Assist the Farm Manager, help oversee seasonal field staff, interns, and volunteers.
Physically capable of working long days and lifting up to 50 pounds

Flower Farmer
